We are Calderdale Save Our Services, a group of local trades unionists and community members working to defend jobs and services in the Calder Valley. We are busy campaigning against privatisation and cuts to services in Calderdale and we want you to get involved!


Calderdale SOS has taken part in the Campaign against Lansley’s NHS reforms and is currently building support for the TUC’s ‘A Future That Works’ demonstration. Calderdale SOS is also active in campaigning against the Government enforced cuts to Public services.

Public meeting organised jointly by Halifax Protest Against The Bedroom Tax and Calderdale Save Our Services.

If you want or can offer transport from other parts of Calderdale to or back from this meeting, please e-mail calderdalesosc@gmail.com and we will try and arrange lifts.

We will be discussing:

Cuts to Adult Health and Social Care

The Campaign to Keep Our NHS Public

The Campaign to Save Horton House Adult Education Centre.

We also need to decide on whether to have a Steering Group or an alternative sub-group of CSOS to oversee admin issues.

Open to all – Everyone Welcome!

Monthly meetings will now alternate between Halifax and Hebden Bridge.

Bedroom tax leaflet

Protest Against the Bedroom Tax took place in wind and snow on Saturday 23 March, at Halifax Town Hall. Regional Reclaim Your NHS Demonstration and Rally in York Saturday 6 April, meet 12 Noon at York Minster to march to St Sampson’s Square for Rally. Leaflet available here. Horton House

Save Horton House: Calderdale SOS has asked Calderdale Council’s Scrutiny Panels to examine the decision to “dispose of” Horton House, Halifax’s Adult Education Centre. The decision was taken quietly with no consultation and no coherent alternative plan for future adult education provision in Halifax. Copy of the SOS Scrutiny submission here. Calderdale Council Cabinet approved plans to Demolish Halifax Central Library on Monday 12 November: Cabinet decision was ratified by Full Council Meeting Wednesday 28 November. “We’re Not Finished Yet” – Don’t Bulldoze Our Library Campaign. Proposed Calder High Academy: public meeting with speaker from Anti-Academies Alliance Thursday 17 January, 7.45pm at Hebden Bridge Town Hall. National Secretary of the Anti-Academies Alliance, Alasdair Smith, will address this public meeting about the proposal to change Calder High from a community comprehensive to an Academy.
